Vertical File Index Help
The South Carolina State Library Vertical File contains information about towns, cities, counties, events, people, landmarks, and other topics relating to South Carolina. The files contain pamphlets, newspaper clippings, correspondence with staff, articles, historical sketches, and other informational materials. Included is also a small general file collection on material that is not specifically from South Carolina. These are materials that have not been added to main WebLion catalog.

Subject Heading-The subject heading is the term or terms a librarian at the State Library has chosen to describe the content of the item(s).
File Location-The file location is the vertical file that the item(s) belong to. We have both a South Carolina Vertical File (SCVF) and a General Vertical File (GVF). This is useful to note if you want to make sure the information you are seeking is about South Carolina in particular. We have many more items in the South Carolina Vertical File.
See:-A see reference guides you from a subject heading that is not in use in the index to a term that is used. In the example above, the term "Advocates for Women on Boards and Commissions" is not used, but may be looked for in the index. Instead, look under the term "Women in politics."
See also:-A see also reference guides you from a subject heading that is in use to additional subject headings that are related. In the example above, the term "Aeronotical Museum" has items in the vertical file, but a person interested in this subject heading may also be interested in the subject heading "Wings and Wheels."
Right now we only have a very basic keyword search. You can search using the search box in the upper right corner of the page.
